No longer part of the Sony Creative Software catalog of media production tools, VEGAS Pro is still up there among the elite of top-quality professional video and movie editors. Its wide range of pro features includes proDAD Mercalli V4 for optimum stabilization processes, NewBlueFX for broadcast-quality titles and video effects, and VEGAS DVD Architect for stunning and highly professional disc authoring tasks.
Its extremely high level of flexibility and the plethora of plug-ins, effects, and filters that it offers you are only on par with its high level of complexity (and its price tag). VEGAS Pro is a tool for professional editing and, as such, it requires a significant learning curve. Experienced movie editors will find similarities with other high-end software products, though they will still need to invest some time in learning the ropes to make the most of its extensive functionality. However, being a complex tool is not something to be ashamed of. Such level of complexity only means one thing – that the possibilities it offers are endless.
VEGAS Pro comes with all the bells and whistles that any professional creative would expect from a top-rank media-editing tool. What makes this app different from its competitors is the amount of professional little tools that come in the package. The three main add-ons that the new VEGAS Pro incorporates are VEGAS DVD Architect, proDAD Mercalli V4, and the full set of NewBlueFX plug-ins. You can use DVD Architect to give that final pro touch to your movie by designing and authoring stunning DVDs and Blu-ray discs. It comes with a large number of templates and commercial-quality effects. In order to stabilize and sharpen the image of movies taken with handheld digital cameras, drones, or action cams without leaving out most of the frame, you will need proDAD Mercalli V4. The results will amaze you, both for 2D and 3D footing. NewBlueFX plug-ins will help you add high-end creative and arty effects, captions, titles, and closing credits to your productions. They will allow you to add animated titles with that sophisticated touch that sets professional movies apart.
There are some among the many new features provided that need to be noted. VEGAS Pro allows you now to upscale High-Definition videos to 4K and UHD footage for higher resolution. You can also now resample entire projects and even set them to your favorite FPS from the start, instead of working painstakingly on individual events. The new smart zoom will identify for you those elements in the frame that deserve highlighting without losing any of the original quality in the process. Besides, its smart adaptive deinterlacing technique will allow you to turn fast-paced deinterlaced material into progressive video with stunning results. Finally, the program’s new support for HFR (High Frame Rate) footage, ProRes materials, XAVC and XAVC S, and the HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) codec will let you work with these formats natively in HD, 2K and 4K.
Add these new features to what we already knew about VEGAS Pro and you’ll understand why this professional editor is gaining more and more prominence with each new release. Among the VEGAS Pro family of products, VEGAS Pro Suite takes video editing to the next level by including some excellent Boris FX tools in the package – the 3D Objects Unit, the BCC Key and Blend Unit, and the Match Move Unit for seamless and stable dynamic scenes.
